For a long time, the only leveling guides available to Warcraft players were dinky little e-books which were filled with limitations. To simply read the guide, players had to do one of three things: go in and out of the game constantly with alt-tab, print the guide out which took hundreds of pages, or use a second monitor which only a few players had. Then they had to scan over the game map trying to find specified locations using coordinates.
As you can imagine, this frustated players to no end, but because it was the only thing available at the time they put up with it. Then came along a man who didn't want players to just put up with it. He wanted them to expect more from guidemakers and more value for their money.
